The Christian life is a race, and it involves a lot of rigour, agony and firmness. In the text above, we can see that so many people back then perished in the wilderness. The Christian race is a marathon, and whoever must run it must be disciplined and adequately prepared.
However, this is not to say that we run it by our might, but by the grace of God. Ecclesiastics 9:11_”I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all.”
1. Run the race with confidence.
No man becomes a champion without self-confidence. The first principle is that you have to see yourself as God sees you_ see yourself as a winner, see yourself as a champion. Numbers 13. The Israelite, despite the assured promises of God, lacked sufficient faith in God. There would have been no need for spies, should they have had faith. Unfortunately, the approach led to destruction for them. If you will win this race, you must have confidence. Always remind yourself, You are Able. Phi. 4:13_ you can do all things. Watch your thinking; watch what you see; and watch what you say.
2. Turn your setbacks to comebacks.
That is to say, learn to forget your past mistakes. The truth is that setbacks are inevitable. Proverb 17:17_A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. That you have setbacks does not mean you are a failure, always trust in God. Phi.3:13-14_”Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”
3. Focus your Vision.
Anybody that will win this Christian race must be very focused. There are so many things going on in the world today, just too many things. But as runners of the Christian race, we must be too fascinated by the things of the world, that we forget our goal.
4. Run with the right motive.
Let your outmost motive be to make the kingdom of God. This golden objective will help to always keep your legs on the right track to heaven.
5. Be assured of God’s good plan for you.
If you must win this race, the joy of the Lord must constantly be your strength. The plan of God for you stands sure, trust in Him. God will never leave nor forsake you, don’t be discouraged.
As said above, the Christian race is a marathon. It is not cheap, neither is it easy. Constant application of these principles will help you to keep running still the end. Nevertheless, only a man in Christ can apply these principles. If you are yet to genuinely give your life to the Lord Jesus Christ, then you have not started your race to God’s kingdom at all. The only road to heaven is Jesus, accept and receive Him today! God Bless You!
